We help chatbot agencies develop chatbots together with their clients

In a half-day session with our paper-based design tool Chatbot Design Sprint

Developing a chatbots functionality & personality

“The Chatbot Design Sprint made it possible to align with our client. And they got really excited about the project through the Chatbot Design Sprint.”

What is a

Chatbot Design Sprint?

It’s a way to develop chatbots as a team. No technology background necessary. It is based on the 5-day Google Design Sprint, only that the focus is on chatbot, and it’s faster.

THE OUTCOME

When to use it?

A: You could use the Chatbot Design Sprint as sales tool. Offering a half-day get-smarter-about-chatbots workshop where the potential client develops some chatbot concepts for himself. They’ll get excited about their concepts and turn to you to bring them to life. Voila.

B: The client might have limited knowledge about chatbots. Together with the client you’ll develop the brief, or define the brief, or develop the brief further. Or if the client is happy about his brief you use the Chatbot Design Sprint to align with the client.

C: If a new solution is necessary and wished, you use the Chatbot Design Sprint to develop a new solution together with the client.

D: The conversational AI company BotSupply, for example, uses the Chatbot Design Sprint to get as much information from the client as possible when starting off a project.

This is how it works

PHASE 1: BRIEFING, PERSON, NEEDS & WANTS

IMG_0680+copy.jpg

The team familiarises with the person they are developing the chatbot for and how the person currently reaches her/his goal. Then the team matches user needs & wants on cards with that person and boils the needs & wants down to for the person most important need & want. Both, the person and the user needs & wants come out of research.

The team matches the persons most important need & want with AI technology using cards – gathering all the specific AI technologies that you could use to serve that need & want. Boiling it down to three AI technologies the team forms first concepts. And visualises the concept in how the person would use your chatbots functionality with simple sketches.

PHASE 2: AI TECHNOLOGY, FUNCTIONALITY CONCEPT

PHASE 3: FIRST CONVERSATION

IMG_0701+3.jpg

Based on the sketches of the person using the chatbots functionality, the team writes a chatbot conversation using conversation modules.

The team defines the brands personality and the persons personality using Personality Cards. They then define the chatbots personality using Personality Cards and they add cards that specify their selected Personality Cards. Based on this the team selects a well known person that sums up the chatbots personality.

PHASE 4: DEFINING THE CHATBOTS PERSONALITY

PHASE 5: IMPROVING THE CONVERSATION WITH THE CHATBOTS PERSONALITY

IMG_0750+3+copy.jpg

The team improves the prior written down conversation by adding the chatbots personality. This and step 4, the chatbots personality, the team tests with real users, or at least with someone outside their team.

Based on the feedback the team improves their solution. They summarise the chatbot with sketches illustrating how the person uses the chatbots functionality, and an example conversation that also reflects the chatbots personality. Furthermore, the functionality concept is stated and the applied AI technology, and the definition of the chatbots personality is stated with the selected Personality Cards and the famous person summarising the chatbots personality. Finally the team gives their chatbot a name. Voila, the chatbot is defined – huge congrats!
