AI Design Sprint®: Factory Floor

Learn how to automate your factory and make it resilient with AI—together with your team, no technical knowledge required.

17.+19.+21.+24. Nov 16-20.00 (CET)

Upcoming Bootcamp date:

What are the real challenges for factories?

Not just efficiency and speed, but adaptability and resilience—handling supply chain shocks, disasters, political shifts, material changes, the next product version, or machine failures. The solution isn’t a fully automated factory—it goes beyond that.

Overview

What the ‘AI Design Sprint®: Factory Floor’ is:

Collaborate

A structured way for the technical team to collaborate with decision-makers from other departments and with people on the factory floor—most of whom are not robotics or AI experts.

Fast

Instead of lengthy discussions, this approach helps your team make decisions efficiently and reach solutions quickly. It’s a sprint.

Identifying where to focus

If you’re unsure where to focus, we begin by identifying key areas of opportunity

We call this process ‘Opportunity Mapping’—our highest-level format.

In preparation, we create a high-level map of your factory floor processes.

During the session, you analyze your factory floor by identifying pain points, outlining your current approach to AI, and highlighting other relevant factors.

1.

You will use our ‘Factory Floor Strategy Cards’ to restate your strategic decisions and realign with your team.

2.

Using our AI Cards® and Factory Floor Robotics Cards, you identify high-level opportunities to improve your factory with AI and robotics.

3.

Your team prioritizes the opportunities. The outcome is a set of focus areas, which we will explore in more detail during the Concept Development & Assessment session together with your larger team, the relevant stakeholders.

Developing the AI + robotics solution

In the main session, your team develops a solution for the chosen focus area—bringing together all key stakeholders.

We call this ‘Concept Development & Assessment

During ‘Concept Development’

The session covers:

  1. Analysis of the current workflow

  2. Matching strategy + AI technology + robotics to workflow steps and mapping the new process with AI + robotics integrated

  3. Capturing the interconnections of the solution with the entire factory and beyond the factory

  4. Ethical check of the proposed solution

During ‘Assessment’

The team conducts:

  1. Technical feasibility analysis, with a focus on data requirements

  2. Value assessment for the business

Output: Technical brief

The AI Design Sprint®: Factory Floor produces a technical brief describing the AI + robotics solution and its functionalities, identifying relevant data sources, and outlining the initial technical complexity.

What follows

What happens after the AI Design Sprint®: Factory Floor:

1. Tech Check

An AI + robotics technical expert conducts a feasibility check to determine how the solution concept can be brought to life.

2. Meeting

The technical roadmap is reviewed, solution concepts are prioritized, and the prototype is scoped.

3. Prototype

A technical prototype is built with real data.

Training & certification

What to Expect in the Training & Certification on ‘AI Design Sprint®: Factory Floor’:

This training is interactive, high-energy, and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on learning by doing. By the end, you’ll be certified as an AI Design Sprint®: Factory Floor Facilitator—qualified and authorized to lead the AI Design Sprint®: Factory Floor with your teams.

Agenda

In the Training & Certification, we start with Opportunity Mapping, focus on Concept Development & Assessment, and outline the handover to the technical team—delivered either remotely over four half-days or onsite over two full days.

First half-day:

'Opportunity Mapping’

  • Work on an example factory floor to identify focus areas

  • Define two focus areas

Third half-day:

Preparation templates and facilitation of ‘Concept Development & Assessment’ (facilitator role)

  • Facilitate parts of the Concept Development session as a recap

  • Prepare a session by mapping a workflow

Second half-day:

‘Concept Development & Assessment’ (participant role)

  • Develop a strategy + AI + robotics solution for one example workflow

  • Evaluate your solution from an ethical perspective

  • Assess your solution in terms of data, and business value

Fourth half-day:

Outlook on ‘Tech Check’ and ‘Prototype’, plus Q&A on the handover and technical phase

  • Gain an overview of the ‘Tech Check’ and ‘Prototype’ phase, and understand how the team’s concept is handed over to a technical AI expert

  • Get your questions about the handover and the technical phase answered

What you’ll get

1. ‘Starterkit’

Before the Training, you will receive our physical Starterkit with all cards, along with the Facilitator Guide to follow during the Training.

  • Factory Floor Strategy Cards

  • Factory Floor Robotics Cards
