Why the AI Design Sprint®: Healthcare?

Collaboration—most people are non-technical

In healthcare, many people are affected by an AI solution—patients, patients families, healthcare professionals, administrators (including insurers), business leaders, researchers. That’s why we don’t leave it to the tech team alone—in fact: the tech team wants to collaborate. Everyone potentially impacted should have a voice.

The challenge: most of these stakeholders don’t have a technical background, yet their input is essential. The AI Design Sprint®: Healthcare ensures their perspectives shape the solution. In short: we don’t start with technology but with people’s needs.

Fast

Healthcare is complex—many stakeholders, many regulations. We help teams cut through the complexity, make decisions, and move forward. The result: getting to solutions fast.

Overall:

Participants leave the AI Design Sprint®: Healthcare aligned and excited about the AI solution concept they created. Since it’s their own work—not something handed down to them—they are much more likely to embrace and use it.

Start with a high-level perspective to identify focus areas

If you don’t know yet where to focus, you start at a high-level. That goes for workflows and products & services.

The high-level perspective captured on the board could be in form of a:

  • Systems Map

  • Value Stream

  • Org Chart

  • Map of all products/services

  • Stakeholder Map

During

this ‘Opportunity Mapping’ the team analyzes, maps AI opportunities using our AI Category Cards, and prioritizes.

Outcome

Identified focus areas.

Next step

In a following session you invite all stakeholders of these focus areas to develop a detailed specific AI solution—improving a product/service or a workflow.

Systems Map

Stakeholder Map

Value Stream

Developing the specific detailed AI solution with all important stakeholders

We now map the focus areas to develop a detailed specific solution.

This can be the

  • Persona and the Persona’s User Journey

  • or the mapped Workflow.

This will be prepared before the session with the client of in-house team. We provide preparation templates.

If the team is focusing on just one department’s processes instead of the whole organization—welcome to the ‘Framing’ format.

Input: mapped overview of all tasks within the department.
Output: two focus areas where AI can deliver the greatest value.

We have now reached the main format, ‘Concept Development & Assessment’, where the team designs a tailored automation solution—including the people currently performing the workflow.

Mapping the workflow

To prepare for this session, we map the process identified by the client or in-house team, or the one emerging from ‘Opportunity Mapping’ or ‘Framing’.

During Concept Development

The session covers:

  1. Analysis of the current work process

  2. Matching AI technology to workflow steps using our AI Cards®, and mapping the new process with AI integrated

  3. Ethical check of the proposed solution

During Assessment

The team conducts:

  1. Technical feasibility analysis, with a focus on data requirements

  2. Value assessment for employees

  3. Value assessment for the business

Output: Technical brief

The AI Design Sprint®: Process Automation produces a technical brief describing the AI solution and its functionalities, identifying relevant data sources, and outlining the initial technical complexity.

What happens after the AI Design Sprint®: Process Automation:

1. Tech Check

An AI technical expert conducts a feasibility check to determine how the solution concept can be brought to life.

2. Meeting

The technical roadmap is reviewed, solution concepts are prioritized, and the prototype is scoped.

3. Prototype

A technical prototype is built with real data within seven days.

Training & certification

What to Expect in the Training & Certification on ‘AI Design Sprint®: Process Automation Facilitator’:

This training is interactive, high-energy, and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on learning by doing. • Quite high—about 90%. When it doesn’t move forward, it’s usually because a similar AI use case already exists in the organization. But even that can be seen as a success.
